The Labrador is bred in the colors black, yellow and brown. In purebred yellow Labradors, the color palette can vary from white to dark foxred. In addition, several colors can occur in one litter.
The “Field-Trial-Labrador”, which is mainly bred for work and has a slightly different appearance, is becoming increasingly popular. The Working Labrador is lighter and taller, has less undercoat and a narrower head with less stop.
The Labrador was recognized as an independent dog breed by the English Kennel Club on 7 July. Until 1899, only the color black existed until a yellow puppy was born in a litter. Its breeding quickly became more popular due to its success at dog shows. In later years, two lines developed, the show line with a more compact stature, and the working line with a lighter appearance.

The Labrador Retriever combines a calm, sensitive, gentle and friendly nature with an exuberant zest for life. His willingness to be subordinate is combined with exceptionally good obedience. He is an adaptable, devoted companion who shows no signs of shyness or aggression.
